Human Rights Commission 1/6/17

Yesterday evening the group met with Chief Commissioner Les Allamby and Commissioner Alan McBride of the Human Rights Commission.

Les is a solicitor and formerly the Director of the Law Centre (Northern Ireland). He was appointed honorary Professor of Law at the University of Ulster last year and is a trustee of the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.

Alan McBride is the Centre Co-ordinator of the WAVE Trauma Centre in Belfast and has been a tireless worker for peace, his wife Sharon was among nine people killed by the IRA in the Shankill bomb atrocity in 1993.

The discussions covered a wide range of what members of the audience felt are a breach of Human Rights issues including the farcical procurement of the Boston College tapes and the surrounding case, injustices within courts toward certain sections of the community, the medias portrayal of individuals, the HET and the supergrass system.

A very enjoyable discussion and one which must be built upon.
