Respect – Heritage – Culture

Are you registered?

The next general election will take place on the 4th July 2024. In 6 weeks time, we will have an opportunity to choose someone to represent our people in the House of Commons, Westminster for up to the next five years.
Are you registered to vote? Please click the following link to check.
Please keep an eye on our page, we will be posting instructions on how to register in the following days/weeks including a registration night in our office if required. We cannot stress enough how important it is to vote. Across the world people have died fighting for the right and to be part of a democracy. To sit in the confines of your home with the destructive attitude of “politicians do nothing for me” is to ignore the very sacrifices they made for us. It isnt about egos and personalities, it’s about the future of our beautiful country!

Mental health awareness & suicide prevention

On Tuesday members of Dalaradia/RATH were invited to attend a health and well being event at the Dunsilly Hotel hosted by Impact Network NI.
Robin Swann MLA, the Minister of Health in Northern Ireland addressed the attendees who were from various voluntary sector groups who had been supported to promote health and wellbeing in their area aswell as mental health awareness & suicide prevention.
A really enjoyable event on one of the most important topics in today’s society.

APEX development

Today members of Dalaradia attended an event inviting local groups to the newly built houses on Rathcoole Drive at the former Newtownabbey School site. It offered groups the opportunity to see some completed homes and get an update on future handovers.
The APEX development offers 103 new social homes. We believe social housing should be stable and affordable and expect these homes to go to people who genuinely need and deserve them, especially local Rathcoole people whom have grown up within the estate, to us they should take priority. We appreciate there is a points system but recent figures show (December 2023) there are 439 people on the waiting list for the area. This has no doubt risen within the last 5 months and with the recent demolition of Monkscoole house they are needed now more than ever.
The first phase all visited yesterday and have all accepted their tenancy offers. We will continue to lobby Apex in the pursuit of locals availing of the houses.
Housing is absolutely essential to human flourishing. Without stable shelter, it all falls apart 🏠

Clonmore House Care Home residents

This afternoon members of Dalaradia/RATH hosted some Clonmore House Care Home residents (and some younger visitors) on the one and only Jason from Jays Barber Clubs vintage Ulsterbus.
We planned to take some residents down memory lane in the 42 year old bus. Unfortunately some residents weren’t feeling to good on the day and some couldn’t physically come on board but not to worry, we will be coming back soon with other activities for them to enjoy.
Some resident stories pulled at our heartstrings. One hasn’t left his room in months and came out just to see the bus. Another hasn’t been on a bus since her teenage years as she was an avid walker. That is what it’s all about ❤️
A huge thank you to Jay and family and our own Rosemary Bell-McCracken at McDonald’s for providing some snacks.

Castle Community Trust

On Thursday evening members of Dalaradia were invited to the Hubb Centres rebranding & relaunch at the Belfast Castle.
A huge well done to our friend Jim Crothers and the staff at the rebranded Castle Community Trust.
We are excited to see their ever growing services being delivered into the North Belfast Community.
