Rathcoole Row on Row
Folks on behalf of RATH. Community Group and Dalaradia can we say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the opening of Rathcoole Row on Row yesterday.
Unfortunately we had to cut proceedings short due to a medical emergency but we can confirm the lady is out of hospital pending further tests, we wish her all the very best and a speedy recovery. We have included a video of what was captured on the day. We have decided to adjourn until next year as we appreciate everyone is very busy in the run up to Remembrance Sunday.
The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.
A special thank you to the following groups/members who attended to lay wreaths:
Rathcoole Red Hand Comrades Association
Billy Boys Flute Band Ulster
1st Rathcoole Campsie Club
Community representatives
A huge thank you to the Rathcoole Protestant Boys. A fine performance by them.
Many thanks to George McKim and Tommy of the Peoples Church Newtownabbey.
Thanks to Francis Strain Bagpiping Services and On the March.
Many thanks to Karl, Carol, Billy F, Shuff and our friend Colin (you know who you are). Many thanks to Robert Foster, Mark and the Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council for their help.
The biggest thanks is to the general public who attended on the day. We really appreciate it. The garden is an open space and is available to members of the community to lay crosses, please feel free to at any stage.
Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much! Not for glory nor riches, but for our people.

We very much hope to see you all on November 6th.
Doonbeg
Yesterday evening our group brought the young builders and collectors of Doonbeg Bonfire to Need 4 Speed Karting and McDonald’s.
Our night started off in The Whitehouse, which tells both the story of the Williamite and Jacobite Wars. They screened a film about bonfires titled Billy Boy – https://belfastfilmfestival.eventive.org/…/billy-boy…
A huge thank you to Dalaradia for funding the night out and to McDonalds Community development manager and RATH member Rosemary Bell-McCracken.
It is great to see young and enthusiastic people within the estate celebrating their heritage and culture. Year in year after we see media bias centred around Bonfires which totally over shadows the significant meaning and history behind them. The Eleventh Night of July celebrates the Glorious Revolution (1688) and Williamite War in Ireland (1689–91). The bonfires or “Beacons” commemorate the lighting of fires on the hills of counties Antrim and Down to help Williamite ships navigate through Belfast Lough at night.
We hope the guys enjoyed it.
Newtownabbey and Cavan
In partnership with Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council, Dalaradia were pleased to host Councillors from Newtownabbey and Cavan to the Whitehouse.
They enjoyed a guided tour and AV presentation with an introduction to our great local history, many thanks for the great positive feedback.
